Executives at Large

“Just because you’re an Executive at Large, does not mean you are a LARGE Executive.” -Jayson Wu, 2026 Spring-Summer E@L

  1. Help out around the common room, e.g. Exam Bank, vending machine problems and requests, Common Room amenities, etc.
  2. Provide assistance to other executive positions within reason and scope
  3. Assist Director of Resources with common room resources

You will have access to the current executive email (csss-exec-current@sfu.ca) alongside the other executives during your term.

Depending on which set of keys you obtain when you start your term, you may not have access to the snack vending machine or the tool cabinets. Below is the list of keys that you should generally have access to:

  • Tool and office supplies cabinet
  • Grey locker
  • Exam Bank
  • Outer Room (ASB 9973)
  • Narnia (The storage room) (ASB 9971)
  • Inner Room (ASB 9975)
  • Snack vending machine
  • Drink vending machine

Generally, it would be preferable for the position to be filled by those in their first couple years of schooling or looking to get more involved in the CSSS. It’s not expected that the E@L (Executives-at-Large) head any events or projects but is something that could be done. People like to say that the responsibility of this position is more or less to just open up the Common Room but that is a responsibility that ALL executive positions have during busier semesters. If you are elected to this position, it is up to you how you want to contribute to student life/involvement. This could range from chairing flagship events or just simply talking to those who come in the room. But there shouldn’t be an expectation to be followed even if someone remarks “Oh the last E@L did [this] and [that]”. You get to set your own goals and boundaries.

Yes this position is one that many Presidents/Vice-Presidents have taken on through their “Executive” career, but it is not expected. Make do with what time you have during your term, you’re not expected to rule the world nor make drastic changes. I would prefer for this position to be more for first-years or people looking to help out in the common room but alas, I am old.
